Every book here has a job

Twenty-nine titles on three shelves: money, habits, health. We buy new copies through authorized US book wholesalers and a partner warehouse inside the country packs and sends them. What we add is the paragraph under each title, which says what the book covers and where it stops.

What the three shelves are for

Business & Money

Nine titles on earning, spending and investing. Morgan Housel's nineteen short chapters sit next to a 174-page HBR guide to reading a balance sheet. $8.85 to $19.16. Open the shelf

Self-Help

Ten titles on habits, confidence and self-talk. James Clear and Carol Dweck share the shelf with a workbook that found its readers on TikTok first, and the notes say which is which. $9.92 to $20.74. Open the shelf

Health & Fitness

Ten titles on eating and metabolism, four of them Mediterranean cookbooks. Three of them argue past what the clinical evidence has settled, and their pages say so. $9.46 to $19.95. Open the shelf

Jason Fung on fasting, and who should not try it

On the Health & Fitness shelf

Jason Fung on fasting, and who should not try it

The Complete Guide to Fasting, Victory Belt Publishing, 2016, 304 pages, $17.31. Fung is a nephrologist who runs these protocols with patients, and the book goes down to the detail of what you can drink without breaking a fast. It also says plainly that fasting does not suit everybody. Pregnant, underweight, diabetic, or on medication: talk to a doctor before you start. That sentence is on our product page too, not left inside the book.

We tell you where the book stops

Every product page says what the title covers and what it does not. Three of the health books argue past what the clinical evidence has settled, and you will read that on the page before you buy.

Carol Dweck's mindset work, replication caveat included

On the Self-Help shelf

Carol Dweck's mindset work, replication caveat included

Mindset, Ballantine Books, 277 pages, $10.65. Dweck is a Stanford psychologist and the book rests on decades of her own studies. It is also the title on this shelf where later replication work narrowed the effect, at least in classrooms. The product page says both. You can read the research argument and still find the book useful, and plenty of people do.
